Journal of Advances in Biological Science is sponsored by the Post Graduate Department and ResearchCenter of Botany, Mahatma Gandhi College, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India and is in print version for articles on all aspects of Biological Science. The scope of the journal extends from molecular biology through classical biology to taxonomy and ecology. The privilege of publication in the journal is not restricted to members of the institution; contributions from research workers worldwide are welcome. Articles submitted to this journal must be original and not have been published elsewhere. Each accepted article type published by Journal of Advances in Biological Scincefollows a specific format.All the articles published in Journal of Advances in Biological Science are rigorously peer-reviewed.The Journal is published biannually (two numbers per year) by the end ofJune and November.
Nature of manuscripts
Original research articles: In this category the articles should present new experimental studies and experimental procedures should be given in sufficient detail for others to verify the work. Length of the Research article should be the minimum required to describe and interpret the work clearly (should not exceed 12 pages).
Review articles: The length of the article in this category should be around 10-12 pages. Submissions of reviews and perspectives covering topics of current interest are welcome and encouraged.
Short communications: Short communications should a maximum of 5 pages length, recording the results of complete small investigations in brief.
Opinion: Views on scientific activity.
Book reviews: On reference books published in various branches of Biological Sciences.
Guidelines for Contributors
The authors should submit their manuscript in MS-Word in single column, double line spacing as per the following guidelines.
The manuscript should be organized as Title page, Authors and their affiliation, Abstract, Key words, Introduction, Material & Methods, Results & Discussion, Conclusion, Acknowledgements and References. The manuscript should not exceed 12 pages in double line spacing including illustrations. The corresponding author shall receive a printed copy of the published work.
Margin as 1.” (Left, Right, Top & Bottom) on A4 paper. Use Times New Roman as the font. Title of the paper should be in bold and in Title case. Authors and Co-author's name. Name of the corresponding author should be highlighted by an asterisk, with whom all the future correspondence shall be made followed by the affiliation and complete address. Providing an e-mail ID is compulsory.
Use the following font sizes:
Title: 14 point bold (Title Case), Author’s name(s): 12-point bold, Author’s Affiliations: 10-point normal, Headings: 11-point bold & caps, Sub-headings: 11-point normal & caps, Body Text: 10-point normal.
Title of the article: Catchy, short and attractive; Compel the readers to read the article; Time-oriented; Serve the purpose of audience – means it should be audience-oriented; News-oriented. The title should be center aligned
Authors and their affiliation: Name(s) of author(s), complete postal address (es) of affiliations (place where work was conducted). Complete correspondence address including e-mail address of authors should be provided. The author’s name and affiliation should be center aligned.
Introduction:It shows the need of writing article and it should be really one paragraph or two paragraphs if the subject is broader
Material & Methods: Materials and Methods should include details of the methodology used and sufficiently elaborate to repeat the experiment. Data produced must be adequate and experimental design should be proper and accurate.
Result and Discussion: In Resultsection includes all results presented in tabular or graphical form. All Tables and figures should be given numbers and must be provided with a title and a legend to make them self-explanatory. Result must be precise and comprehensive and should not suffer from vagueness. In Discussion section contain a critical review of the results of the study with the support of relevant literature. It can end with brief conclusions. Do not repeat in detail data already stated in results.
Units in metric system: Full forms of all abbreviations used in table; source of data should be given in detail. Units of measurement, symbols and standard abbreviations should conform to those recommended by the International organizations.
Tables, Figures and Diagrams: Include Tables and figures in the same file as the text in the end of the manuscript. Insert Figures into the document in JPEG or TIFF format. Only black & white figures are encouraged. The colour diagrammes also will be accepted but it is chargeable. Figures should be entered in one column (center aligned) and should not exceed 6-inch total width. A minimum line width of 1 point is required at actual size. Annotations should be in Times New Roman 12 point with only the first letter capitalized.
Spacing: Lines must be double-spaced (plus one additional line between paragraphs).
Equations: Each equation should appear on a new line.
Acknowledgement:All acknowledgments should be typed in one paragraph directly earlier the reference section.
References: The references should be arranged alphabetically. In the text, references should coated according to Harvard System as- For one author (Patil, 2001), for two authors as (Patil and Gaikwad, 2011) and for more than two authors as (Patil et al., 2011) respectively. Botanical names of the plants should be italicized and Journal names should be abbreviated and italicized. Make sure that all references in the text are listed and vice-versa. Titles of periodicals should be abbreviated according to the world list of scientific periodicals. Citation in the text should be given in brackets such as Arnon (1949), lone and Khan (2005), Khan et al. (2008) etc. References in the text should be separated by comma. References of Journals, Books and Conferences should be written as shown in the example below:
